Rep. Foster Encourages Swift Action In Response To CBO Deficit Projection

Today, Rep. Bill Foster (IL-14) released the following statement in response to the Congressional Budget Office's 2010 deficit projection, which estimates a $1.35 trillion deficit.

"Families in the 14th District have been making hard economic choices to make ends meet, and it is time for their government to do the same thing. Since I took office, I've voted against the President's budget every time because I did not think it did enough to lay out a plan to pay down the national debt. It appears that the President will propose a three year freeze on increased spending for many domestic programs in his State of the Union Address tomorrow evening, and I think this is a step in the right direction. However, we must do more to get our long-term spending and deficit under control.

Moving forward, it is my hope that we create a bipartisan commission with mandatory action by Congress to reduce our deficit and get us back on the road to fiscal responsibility. The Greatest Generation took more than 15 years to pay off the massive debts from WWII. This is the challenge of our generation, and the time to begin is now."
