Gov. John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to news of the devastation in Haiti owing to the recent earthquake: "I know I am joined by all North Dakotans in extending my sympathy to the people of Haiti and their relatives, as the magnitude of damages from Tuesday's devastating earthquake emerge."
"At this time, it appears that United States resources to aid the people of Haiti will be mobilized largely from the southeastern U.S. and Puerto Rico. The North Dakota National Guard has not been called on to support recovery operations in Haiti at this point, but stands ready to respond as needed."
"Again, our thoughts are with the people of Haiti at this difficult time, as well as with National Guardsmen from Puerto Rico and all other emergency personnel who are responding to the crisis."
