U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Wednesday regarding the devastating earthquake in Haiti:
"The earthquake in Haiti is a devastating blow to the country and its people, and a tragedy for the staff of the United Nations and aid workers from so many nations who have been in the country for years assisting in the needed development of Haiti and its people.
"While the U.S. is already sending federal aid and assets, I am confident that the generosity of the American people will be what it so regularly is in these tragedies--an inspiring expression of responsibility and benevolence. I appreciate the administration's immediate response to this crisis and that of our partners around the world as we assess the needs caused by this disaster."
