Fleming Comments On Senate Health Care Legislation Final Passage

Representative John Fleming, M.D. issued the following statement after final passage of the Senate's version of a government takeover of health care.

"Today, while Americans are at home spending the holidays with their loved ones, Senate Democrats delivered an unwelcome Christmas present, voting to move this country one step closer towards a government takeover of health care. Secretly at work brokering backroom deals and coordinating special payoffs, the Majority has clearly chosen to ignore the fact that Americans have overwhelmingly rejected this plan. As a practicing physician for over 30 years and as a small business owner, I can tell you that both the House and Senate versions of "health care reform' will cripple our health care system, increase health care costs for working families, and no doubt insert Washington bureaucrats between patients and their doctors. I encourage all Americans to reject this lump of coal found in their stocking this Christmas Eve and to continue to make their voices heard as House and Senate negotiators move to the final stage in this process.

Background
Today at 7:05 AM, Senate Democrats passed H.R. 3590 (as amended), their version of the government takeover of health care by a vote of 60-39. Every member of the Democratic caucus backed the measure; every Republican opposed it. The House and Senate bills will now move to a Conference Committee where negotiators must reconcile the two versions.
