Hoeven Announces $2.3 Million State Funding For Clausen Springs Dam Repair

Gov. John Hoeven today announced that the State will provide a total of $2.3 million toward the estimated $3 million needed to repair the Clausen Springs Dam, which was damaged during last spring's flooding, threatening both the dam's integrity and the nearby community of Kathryn. The $2.3 million includes $1 million from the North Dakota Game and Fish and $1.3 million from the North Dakota State Water Commission.

"Clausen Springs is an asset for the area and a draw for tourists and recreationists," said Hoeven. "Thankfully, the dam and lake were saved during last spring's flooding, but it was heavily damaged. The state is committed to working with local entities in a joint effort to rebuild Clausen Springs Dam to ensure the safety of the community of Kathryn and to enhance tourism and recreation on the lake."

The local cost share for the $3 million project will include $500,000 from the Red River Joint Water Resource District and $200,000 from the Barnes County Commission. Planning and design for the project will continue over the winter and bidding for the project will open this spring. Construction on the project is expected to begin next fall.
