Sessions: After An 85% Spending Increase, Spend More Money?

Statement

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-32) today released the following statement regarding the fiscal year 2010 "omnibus" appropriations legislation -- a consolidated spending bill to fund government agencies and operations:

"Americans across the nation are angrily asking: "How much more will Congress spend?' Since Democrats took control of Congress, non-defense spending has increased 85 percent. During the worst economy since the Great Depression, the American people are being forced to bankroll this fiscal insanity through more taxes and record debt.

"This week, the American people will once again see the Democrats' solution to our dire fiscal state: spend more money. As if a $1.42 Trillion deficit wasn't enough, Congressional Democrats plan to feed their insatiable appetite for spending with another 14 percent spending increase in the omnibus appropriations bill. With reckless disregard for the consequences, their answer to every problem is the same: spend more money.

"This is unsustainable, and the American people know it. They know that the borrow, tax, and spend policies of this Democrat Congress will bankrupt our nation, heaping mountains of debilitating debt on our children and grandchildren. My Republican colleagues and I will continue to be the voice for fiscal responsibility in the face of Congressional Democrats' unwavering commitment to spend more money."
