U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-32) today joined other GOP House leaders and leading economists to promote economic policies that will have real effect on job creation and economic growth in America.
"Over three million Americans have lost their jobs this year, and they understand firsthand that the tax, borrow, and spend policies of this Congress will not sustain job creation and economic growth," said Sessions. "While unemployment tops 10 percent, President Obama and Congressional Democrats continue to peddle an agenda that will kill an additional 10 million American jobs under government-run health care, the National Energy Tax, and card check forced unionization.
"It's past time for President Obama and Congress to lay aside these failed policies and work with Republicans in Congress to promote proven pro-growth policies for job creation," Sessions continued. "Strategic tax relief and less government interference are starting points for empowering people and small businesses -- not the government -- to keep more of what they earn to grow, invest, and create jobs."
Economists Larry Lindsey, Doug Holtz-Eakin, Kevin Hassett, Tom Miller, Jim Capretta, Diana Furchgott-Roth, and Alex Brill participated in the economic roundtable, which was held at the U.S. Capitol this morning prior to the White House "Jobs Summit" this afternoon.
"Small businesses are the engine of our economy, and House Republicans are focused on providing common-sense solutions to encourage job creation," said Sessions. "From 20 percent tax deductions on their income to affordable and portable health care solutions, small businesses can grow and create jobs with additional resources and cost-saving measures, and my Republican colleagues and I stand ready to work with Democrats in Congress and President Obama to provide small businesses with the tools they need to succeed."
Note: Congressman Sessions supports a plan for job creation that includes the following common-sense ideas:
* Lowers Taxes on Small Businesses
- Make 20% of earned small business income tax free
* Encourages Investment
- Extend bonus depreciation and special expensing for new capital investments
* Simplified Tax Code Option
- Fair and Simple Tax Act: one-page filing option, three-tiered tax rates of 10%, 15% and 30%
* Lowers Taxes on Manufacturing
- Keep taxes on manufacturing earnings to less than 25% for global competitiveness
* Access to Affordable Health Care
- Allow large health insurance pools for small businesses and expand Health Savings Accounts
