Van Hollen Statement On The November Jobs Report

Today Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) issued the following statement on the November jobs report from the Department of Labor, which showed that 11,000 jobs were lost last month, far fewer than economists had anticipated:

"Today's announcement that unemployment has dropped and our economy lost fewer jobs than expected is welcome news -- and further confirmation that the Recovery Act is working. Coupled with CBO's recent report that our economic recovery plan has created as many as 1.6 million jobs and growing consensus from a broad range of economists that our plan stabilized the economy, it is clear we are making our way back from the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. However, much work remains to be done.

"President Obama and the Democratic Congress are working to create a new foundation of growth in America, and to rebuild our economy in a way that supports middle class families and small businesses, not special interests. Unfortunately, Republicans have made their opposition to this agenda clear. During this time of crisis, they have chosen to recycle the same policies that created this mess in the first place. But I am still hopeful that they will start to work with us to strengthen our economy and keep us moving in the right direction."
