DeLauro Fights For Stronger Consumer Protection Laws

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) called for strong consumer protection laws today in reaction to the largest ever recall of cribs issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

More than 2.1 million Stork Craft drop-side cribs, sold across in the United States and Canada, are being recalled due to a danger of entrapment and suffocation when certain parts break or detach. There have been over 100 incidents of entrapments and falls reported, and four deaths.

Congresswoman DeLauro said, "This is a clear reminder of the importance of having strong consumer protection laws. We must strengthen and improve upon our current laws and create better methods of implementing them-- we should never be in the situation we are today, where children have died, and more than 2 million are in danger. This is preventable, and it is our responsibility as a nation to ensure the safety of our children. Parents should be able to put their children to sleep at night knowing that they will be safe in their cribs."
