Adrian Smith (R-NE) today released the following statement regarding Recovery.gov, the amount of money spent, and the numbers of jobs created by the massive stimulus bill passed earlier this year.
According to the site, the federal government spent $858,235,100 to create 2,839 jobs in Nebraska. This amounts to $295,000 per job. The report for Nebraska also listed several congressional districts which do not exist, including the 4th, 14th, 31st, 44th, and 48th.
"The American people deserve transparency to see what taxpayer money is being spent on, and they must have accurate information. This report shows some jobs exist, just in non-existent congressional districts.
"Further, this only underscores it is wrong to increase government spending, debt, deficits, and taxes. This report proves the President's stimulus plan hasn't worked and is instead creating more wasteful spending, more confusion, and bigger government," Smith said.
