Sessions: House Expands Deficit Spending In Ploy On Physicians

Press Release

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-32) today released the following statement in opposition to House Democrats' phony physician payment "fix" that passed the House by a vote of 243 -183:

"Today, House Democrats get a gold star for political expediency at the expense of physicians and taxpayers. In a cynical attempt to hide the true costs of her government-run health care bill, Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised a separate ‘solution' for the looming 21% physician reimbursement cuts -- a solution that recreates and expands the same flawed system, adds a quarter trillion dollars to the national debt, and leads to higher costs for seniors.

"Taxpayers are left holding the bag for this political stunt. In addition to billions more in national debt, Speaker Nancy Pelosi's physician payment ruse leaves taxpayers owing $2 trillion more in unfunded Medicare obligations, further escalating Medicare's impending bankruptcy. With no regard for fiscal consequences, House Democrats continue to break the bank at a time when Americans can least afford it. Plain and simple, this vote is reckless, deceptive, and unsustainable.

"I wholeheartedly support a permanent and appropriate fix to the current physician reimbursement problem. That is why I am proud to stand with my Republican colleagues in supporting a fiscally-responsible solution that provides a 2% positive update for four years -- with the cost fully offset by implementing comprehensive, meaningful medical liability reform. Every day, doctors provide quality health care to our community, families, and friends, and they deserve far better from this Congress."
