To Apply For "Spirit Of Community" Honors

Nov. 2 Application Deadline Set for Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program

U.S. Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker today encouraged Mississippi middle and high school students involved in volunteer and community service projects to apply for the 2010 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

A Nov. 2 application deadline has been set for this program that recognizes the contributions of youth in grades 5-12 in their communities. The program is sponsored by Prudential Financial, Inc. and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

"For the past 14 years, I have been touched by the generous and innovative service projects undertaken by Mississippi youth to improve their communities and help the less fortunate. These students serve as role models for everyone, and the Spirit of Community program is one way they can help spread the ideals of volunteerism," Cochran said.

"Every day across Mississippi there are young people volunteering their time to make our communities and state a better place," Wicker said. "The Spirit of Community program is a great way to honor their efforts and to inspire more people to become involved in their communities. I encourage all middle and high school students active in volunteer and community service projects to apply for this unique program."
