Mccollum Congratulates President Obama On Receiving Nobel Peace Prize

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-4) released the following statement to congratulate President Obama on receiving the Nobel peace Prize:

"The Nobel Committee's choice of President Barack Obama as the winner of its 2009 Peace Prize is recognition of the magnitude of the transformation of American foreign policy that has taken place during the past nine months. As the leader of the world's most powerful nation, President Obama has already taken unprecedented actions on behalf of peace by reversing policies that have made the world and the United States less safe. By replacing a policy of pre-emptive war with constructive diplomacy, ending torture and establishing a renewed respect for human rights, and renouncing actions that alienated Muslims around the world with a call for respect, dialogue, and understanding, President Obama has made the world more peaceful and given hope for greater achievements in the future. While conflicts and serious challenges continue to exist, the American people have demonstrated to the world through President Obama's leadership that a more peaceful world is possible, if all nations and peoples are all willing to work together."
