Rep. Doris Matsui Announces Results Of Constituent Survey On Health Care Debate

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-05) announced the results from her online Health Insurance Reform Survey, which includes opinions and thoughts shared by over 1,900 Sacramentans. Representative Matsui hosted the survey on her website, and will continue to allow Sacramentans to share their priorities and concerns about the on-going debate over health care reform.

"I have appreciated the feedback, input, questions, and suggestions put forth by my constituents as Congress considers the best method to ensure all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care," said Rep. Matsui. "The stories shared with me in my telephone town halls, hundreds of conversations, and with this survey, have reinforced my support for a strong public option, and for comprehensive health insurance reform. The message has been clear: when I asked my constituents to identify their first priority in reform, the most popular response was to expand coverage to all Americans. Only five percent indicated they would prefer to keep the system as it exists now. There clearly is a mandate for change in Sacramento."

The survey featured ten questions covering a range of topics related to the health care legislation. 80 percent of respondents believe that the health care system ought to be more equitable and affordable for all American families. 63 percent of respondents support a public insurance option.

"Many Sacramentans expressed that they enjoy their health care benefits and the quality of care they receive in our community, but constantly face rising costs and premiums. Over one-third of respondents often or at times struggle to afford their health care. This sentiment has been echoed in many conversations I have had with families in Sacramento. It is time to make health care work for hard working Americans."

Congresswoman Matsui has also engaged with constituents in two telephone town halls in the past month, attracting over 20,000 callers combined.
