Congressman Peters Statement On Iran's Secret Nuclear Facility

Congressman Gary Peters released the statement below following remarks by President Obama, French President Nicholas Sarkozy and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown revealing that Iran has been operating a covert nuclear facility for several years and had deceptively hidden the facility from international weapons inspectors:

"What has been clear to many should now be obvious to all: Iran is creating a rogue nuclear program and has been attempting to deceive the world about it. Iran's actions are wholly unacceptable and represent a clear threat to the United States, our ally Israel and to international stability.

"I applaud the strong words of President Obama, President Sarkozy and Prime Minister Brown. Now we need strong action not just from these three countries but the entire global community. I have cosponsored legislation to impose tough new sanctions on Iran and I hope Congress acts on this immediately. We must not hesitate to impose further pressure and work with the international community to ensure that Iran never possesses nuclear weapons."
