Mueller Praises NYPD, Which Has Coordinated With Feds Throughout Ongoing Investigation

FBI Director Robert Mueller assured U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) Wednesday that there was no "imminent danger" in the aftermath of a raid performed by federal authorities on residences in New York City earlier this week.

In response to a question by Schumer at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Mueller stated: "I do not believe there is imminent danger from that particular investigation."

Schumer thanked Mueller for providing this assurance, noting that speculation has abounded in recent days about the nature of the investigation.

"This recent report put New Yorkers on edge. It came at a time right after 9/11. There are all sorts of rumors going around. I know that this is an ongoing investigation and not much can be said, nor should it, so the investigation is not compromised," Schumer said at the hearing.

Schumer went on to announce that he planned to accept an invitation to visit the Joint Terrorism Task Force in New York. The task force represents a coordinated effort between local and federal law enforcement agencies. Mueller responded by praising the NYPD, which has coordinated its work with the FBI through the task force.

"Our relationships with NYPD in this, and other investigations, could not be better," Mueller added. "New Yorkers are well benefited by the work of NYPD and Ray Kelly in making the city safe. In situations where there are investigations being conducted, we have a very good working relationship and we continue that relationship."
