Issa Sponsors Legislation To Defund ACORN

House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Darrell Issa (R-CA) partnered with House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) to sponsor legislation that would sever ties between the federal government and the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). At the same time, House Republicans are also sending a letter to President Obama asking him to take action to end taxpayer funding of ACORN.

"The fact that both the Census Bureau and the United States Senate have taken action to limit the federal government's involvement with ACORN highlights the legitimacy behind our calls for an investigation into ACORN's organizational structure and political activities," Issa said. "Until the lingering questions surrounding ACORN's activities are answered, other federal agencies need to re-evaluate their relationship with ACORN and Congress should follow suit by passing legislation to terminate ACORN's access to federal dollars. The taxpayers should not be subsidizing ACORN's activities until a full investigation by Congress, the Justice Department or the IRS is conducted."
