Moran Calls for End to Federal Funding for ACORN

Congressman Jerry Moran today announced his actions to immediately terminate all taxpayer funding to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). Moran requested President Obama cut funding to ACORN, sponsored legislation to prohibit government funding for ACORN and recently urged the Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to investigate the activities of ACORN.

"Action is necessary to ensure that no additional tax dollars are directed to ACORN," Moran said. "I have asked the President to immediately halt taxpayer funding to ACORN. I have also sponsored legislation, the Defund ACORN Act, to prohibit further government funding to the group. This organization has been in the center of several controversies dating back many years. Yet, it has continued to receive taxpayer support. I refuse to let taxpayers' dollars fund an ethically problematic organization whose activities are compromised. It is time the government permanently cut off its funding."

Moran called for the Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to investigate the activities of ACORN. He asked that the committee continue to investigate the claims of illegal and inappropriate actions on the part of ACORN and its employees.
