Smith Statement On House Resolution Against Rep. Wilson

Statement

Date: Sept. 15, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today released the following statement on the vote today by the House of Representatives expressing disapproval of Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) for his outburst during President Obama's address to Congress on September 9. Wilson has since offered his apologies to President Obama, who accepted.

Smith was seated next to Wilson at the time of his remark.

"It was an inappropriate remark and a regrettable moment for my colleague. By recycling an issue simply to score political points, though, we are drawing attention away from the very real debates on energy, health care and how to deliver effective, affordable care for the American people. It is time to move on."
