Sen. Cornyn: Though Long-Overdue, Some Drought Assistance Now Available For Texas Ranchers

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Agriculture's announcement that it has begun implementing its Livestock Disaster Assistance Programs.

"Today's announcement is welcome news but long overdue for many Texas ranchers who have endured this year's devastating drought. Texas livestock owners can now apply for funding to compensate for grazing and forage losses, which will go a long way in helping them recover. It's unfortunate, however, that farmers are still waiting for the agency to release assistance for crop losses given the legislation was passed and signed into law well over a year ago.

"I will continue pressing the agency to do all it can to help Texas farmers and ranchers receive all necessary resources to fully recover from this year's drought."
