Congressman Johnson's Statement On 9/11 Resolution, Day Of Service

On the eve of the eighth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, the House of Representatives passed H. Res. 722 -- Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives regarding the terrorist attacks launched against the United States. On Friday, Americans across the country will honor the victims and heroes of the 9/11 tragedy by serving their neighbors and communities as part of the first-ever federally recognized September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.

"Let there be no mistake about it, 9/11 is a day that will forever define us -- how we dealt with it, how we acted on the challenges moving forward and how we turned our grief into action," said Johnson.

"The heroes that day -- firefighters, police, local officials, everyday citizens -- are many and great. To the families who lost loved ones that fateful day, we whisper our prayers. And to the brave men and women who to this day are fighting in far-flung fields to keep us safe from terrorism today, we look you straight in the eye and say ‘thank you' with our deepest sincerity and hope for the future.

This is the time for all Americans to renew their recognition of the timeless values that make our country great -- equality, justice, freedom, diversity and the rule of law. I encourage everyone to give back to their communities on Friday and rekindle the spirit of a nation that looks after its own.
