Sessions Statement on President Obama's 28th Health Care Speech

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-32) today released the following statement regarding President Obama's health care address to a joint session of Congress and to the American people:

“Tonight, President Obama launched another prime time sales pitch for a government-run health care product that the American people have already undeniably rejected. The American people don't want another speech -- they want a better plan.

“Together, House Republicans have offered common-sense reforms that would lower health care costs, increase access to affordable care, free the market for competition, and make coverage portable and patient-centered. Like the American people, we understand that government-run health care is unsustainable and inevitably leads to higher costs, fewer choices, and interference in the doctor-patient relationship.

“In May, I joined other House Republican leaders in requesting a meeting with President Obama to find common ground on practical health care reforms. Unfortunately for the American people, President Obama has instead opted for unilateralism on health care, now delivering his 28th health care speech and ignoring the voices of millions of Americans.

“It's past time for President Obama and Congressional Democrats to stop talking and start listening. At town hall meetings across the nation, Americans called for bipartisan reform that strengthens the current health care system and addresses the needs of the currently uninsured. House Republicans stand ready to help meet that goal. Tonight should mark a new beginning -- not a good salesman with a bad product.”
