Van Hollen Statement On President Obama's Address To The Joint Session Of Congress

Today, Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Assistant to the Speaker, issued the following statement on President Obama's Address to the Joint Session of Congress:

“As President Obama made clear tonight, we are committed to health insurance reform that provides additional protections, increased stability, and stronger consumer protections for those who have insurance, and affordable coverage to those who don't. It is the right thing to do and the time is now.

“Congress has made significant progress towards achieving health insurance reform, and President Obama's speech tonight provided important momentum to that effort. I urge my Republican colleagues to come to the table with policy solutions instead of misinformation. Our nation faces serious problems, and Americans deserve stability and security in our health insurance system. We are at a historic moment for our country, one that demands that we come together and deliver responsible reform that puts the American people first, not the special interests.”
