Cornyn Joins The Chorus: Republicans Agree With 80% Of The House Reform Bill

Today, Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Assistant to the Speaker, issued the following statement on Senator John Cornyn's (R-TX) comment that Republicans agree with 80 percent of the House health insurance reform bill:

“With Senator John Cornyn joining the chorus of Republicans who are now admitting they agree with 80 percent of the health insurance reform bill, I urge Minority Leader Boehner and the House Republican leadership to stop calling for us to ‘hit the reset button.'

“With this legislation, starting next year, no American could be dropped by their insurance company simply because they actually get sick and need the coverage. With this legislation, we can start reining in skyrocketing premiums and out-of-pocket costs hidden in the fine print. American families, businesses, and our economy can't afford to lose this historic chance for reform.

“The time for divisive rhetoric and irresponsible scare tactics is over. Americans want health insurance reform, and I call on my Republican colleagues to work with President Obama to make reform a reality instead of playing politics.”
