Sen. Cornyn Statement On Human Space Flight Report

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement regarding the Human Space Flight Review Committee report, which concluded that "the U.S. human spaceflight program appears to be on an unsustainable trajectory. It is perpetuating the perilous practice of pursuing goals that do not match allocated resources."

"Human space flight enables us to explore not only new frontiers, but also develop technologies that boost our national and economic security, and maintain our global competitiveness. The space program is also a vital component of the Houston region's economy, where so many dedicated and talented individuals devote their efforts to conquering the unknown.

"The Commission's report clearly spells out the challenges that both NASA and our human space program face on their current course. The Committee's work should serve as a wakeup call to the Administration and Congress that NASA deserves the support necessary to make sure we remain on the forefront in exploring the universe," Sen. Cornyn said.

"I'll continue to fight for Johnson Space Center and for NASA to include a robust human space flight program. This program is too important to our country and to Texas to delay or hinder."

Sen. Cornyn serves on the Finance, Judiciary, Agriculture and Budget Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee's Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.
