Moran's Statement On Massive U.S. Deficit Increase
Congressman Jerry Moran delivered the below statement following the release from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Administration's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) of long term federal budget projections showing deficit increases not seen since World War II. The CBO and OMB estimate that the federal budget deficit will total $1.6 and $1.58 trillion respectively. In addition, the CBO projects there will be more than $7 trillion in new debt added over the next 10 years.
"Even though the numbers released today are the outcome of years of massive government spending, they are growing exponentially worse," Moran said. "At this time, families need a signal that the economy will return to prosperity and, instead, are given projections for higher deficits, less economic growth and falling revenue over the next 10 years. Congress must stop adding additional government programs and reduce wasteful government spending to prevent us from bankrupting our country and increasing the burden on future generations."
Moran is one of only 17 of 435 members of the House of Representatives, and the only member of the Kansas congressional House delegation, to vote against each of the government bailouts and stimulus packages that have resulted in a dramatic increase in federal spending.
