Capito On New Budget Numbers: “An Ominous Cause For Concern”

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.V., issued the following statement today after the White House Office of Management and Budget and the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released updated information on the outlook of the federal budget:

"Reports out today are an ominous cause for concern at a time when federal spending is already at record levels," said Capito. "Over the course of the last year we've seen well over a trillion dollars in combined bailout and stimulus spending, an unknown amount of Federal Reserve dollars committed to prop up financial institutions and now we're looking at a trillion dollar price tag on healthcare reform."

"Certainly such fiscal challenges are not new to this administration, but the degree to which deficits have accelerated in recent months is simply not sustainable. Fiscal responsibility and fiscal discipline must be a larger part of the conversation when Congress returns to Washington next month."
