Atkins Named To TARP Oversight Panel

U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced Thursday that he named Paul S. Atkins to serve as a member of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) Oversight Panel. The current vacancy was created when former Sen. John Sununu stepped down.

The Oversight Panel is charged with reviewing the state of the financial markets, the regulatory system, and the TARP. The panel issues monthly reports on how TARP funds are being used. The Oversight Panel consists of 5 members, with the Speaker of the House, the House Republican Leader, the Senate Majority Leader and the Senate Republican Leader each selecting one member. The fifth member is a joint selection by the Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader.

Atkins is a former Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and served previously as a senior advisor to two SEC chairman.
