Congressman Fleming's Statement on Final Passage of the Budget and President Obama's 100th Day in Office

Statement

"Today marks the 100th day in office for President Obama and Congress celebrated by passing one of the most reckless budgets in American history. Any thoughts for a fiscally responsible Administration were quickly erased with the final passage of a FY2010 budget that topped $3.5 trillion and created $12 trillion in new debt over the course of the next decade, doubling our national deficit in five years and tripling it in ten years.

The only way to pay for this spending is with new taxes and a crushing debt burden for future generations.

While I commend President Obama today for becoming our nation's first African American president, his communication skills and for being a very likable person, I will continue to oppose his policies as long as they offer no fiscal restraint or public transparency. The only way to truly stabilize our economy is to work together and include bipartisan ideas into the formation of major legislation.

We are currently witnessing a very liberal agenda at the forefront of economic policy. My hope is that as we move forward, there will be a place for all points of view in this Administration and legislation will be crafted from a fiscally responsible perspective."
