Foster Statement On Unemployment Numbers

Today, the Department of Labor reported that 651,000 jobs were lost in America during the month of February and that the unemployment rate has risen to 8.1 percent - the highest unemployment rate since December 1983. Rep. Bill Foster (IL-14) released the following statement.

"This statistic is yet another indication that, after nearly a decade of economic mismanagement, we desperately need to retool our economic policies in order to get our economy back on track.

Passing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was a responsible first step forward, but we must recognize that it is simply the first step. The economy will not turn around overnight, and I am committed to working with my colleagues in a bi-partisan way to craft policies that will promote economic recovery.

"In the days and months ahead, it is my sincere hope that Congress and the Administration will work productively and efficiently to create and save jobs right here in the 14th District."
