Bush Address Fails to Provide Real Solutions to America's Challenges

DeGette: We Must Put Main Street America before Wall Street

DENVER, CO - U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, Democratic Floor Whip and senior Democrat in the Colorado Congressional delegation, released the following statement regarding President Bush's State of the Union address:

"Three years ago, President Bush took charge of a nation that was prosperous, had a budget surplus and was respected as the leader of international cooperation. Under his stewardship, America has lost more than 2 million jobs, 40 million Americans are without health insurance and reckless tax cuts and massive spending increases have turned a budget surplus into a $500 billion deficit. Americans expected an agenda that addressed these serious problems.

Tonight, instead providing real solutions, the President did little more than offer petty proposals crafted for his re-election campaign. In this critical year, we must put Main Street America before Wall Street."
