Congressman Gary Peters, a Member of the House Committee on Science and Technology, author of the Advanced Vehicle Technology Act of 2009 (H.R. 3246) and whose district is home to companies receiving some of the $2.4 billion in advanced auto technology grants announced today, issued the following statement following today's event with Vice President Joe Biden in Detroit:

"The advanced auto technology grants announced today will benefit Michigan and Oakland County significantly. These targeted grants from the economic recovery plan are exactly what we need to plant the seeds of long-term job creation and economic growth here.

"The survival of our way of life in Michigan is dependent on having an administration that believes in the importance of new auto and energy technologies and is willing to invest in our success. The White House continues to show they understand the importance of American manufacturing. With continued support for our advanced technology businesses, I am more confident than ever that Michigan will once again be a global economic power in the new century as we were for much of the last one."
