Statement Of Rep. Degette On Hostages In Iraq

WASHINGTON, D.C.-U.S. Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement regarding the murder of Nicholas Berg:

"Every American is saddened by the horrible murder of Nicholas Berg in Iraq. His family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.

This was an atrocious crime that shows an utter disregard for humanity that can never be justified. The United States must do everything we can to prevent this violence from spreading even further out of control.
We must also not forget the hostages still alive in Iraq. I remain in close contact with the family as well as government officials in the United States and Iraq regarding the status of Aban Elias. On this very trying day, our hearts also go out to Mr. Elias and his entire family."
