Economy Grows 4.2 Percent in First Quarter

Diaz-Balart: 'President's Tax Relief Policy Works'

WASHINGTON-Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) today praised the President's tax policy for helping bolster the American economy, which grew 4.2 percent in the first quarter of 2004 - well above the historical average.

"The economy continues to surge forward," Diaz-Balart said. "President Bush has shown tremendous leadership in handling the economy. His Jobs and Growth tax relief package helped fuel the sustained strong improvement in our economy over the past few quarters. John Kerry needs to explain why he wants to raise taxes and kill our growth.

"Last month was the largest increase in employment in almost four years, and more jobs will continue to open up as the economy continues to grow."
