Sen. Cornyn Previews President's Health Care Speech

Durbin joins bipartisan group of senators calling on President Obama to abandon false deadlines and inflammatory rhetoric

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Finance Committee, made the following statement regarding Sen. Dick Durbin's admission that the White House is rushing health care reform and in advance of President Obama's press conference on the subject tonight.

"It was reassuring to see Sen. Durbin embrace Republican calls to slow down and ensure we get health care reform right. The American people have serious doubts about the government-run plan that the President wants to rush through Congress. They want to see us lower the cost of health insurance, and not cause anybody to lose the current coverage they have. I hope President Obama demonstrates tonight that he is listening to the American people, as well as to the Majority Whip. I hope he abandons rash deadlines and partisan attacks, and recognizes that a better bill will require more time and more bipartisan support," Sen. Cornyn said.
