Sen. Cornyn To Keep Fighting For F-22 Funding

"Terminating the production of these world-class fighters would be a profound mistake"

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, issued the following statement expressing his disappointment after the U.S. Senate voted to strip $1.75 billion for F-22s from the Defense Authorization bill.

"The F-22 Raptor is the most capable fighter in the world - the very best for penetrating deep into enemy territory to take out radars without ever being detected, evading attacks from the newest and most dangerous surface-to-air missiles, and prevailing in air-to-air combat. In addition, it is vital to our nation's economy and is sustaining tens of thousands of jobs during a time of economic challenges.

"It is on the wings of these fighters that America will maintain air dominance in the coming decades, but our fleet of F-22s is not yet large enough to counter potential threats to our national security. Terminating the production of these world-class fighters would be a profound mistake for several reasons, but thankfully today's vote is not the final word on that issue. I will continue fighting for F-22 funding in the Senate," Sen. Cornyn said.
