Gov. Rounds Announces More Than $48 Million for Environmental Projects

Gov. Mike Rounds announced Thursday that the state Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved more than $48 million in grants and low-interest loans for drinking water, wastewater, and storm water projects.

The approvals included three grants and 14 low-interest loans, with principal forgiveness on 13 of those loans under the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.

"We are pleased to be able to make these funds available for projects that use both dedicated state funding and utilize stimulus funds to create and retain jobs," Gov. Rounds said. "These projects will result in better services for residents and increased protection of the environment."

The $48.46 million total includes a $6.3 million State Water Resources Management System grant for the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System, two Consolidated Water Facilities Construction Program grants totaling $361,440; seven loans from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program totaling nearly $11 million, with $1.8 million of that in principal forgiveness; and seven loans from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program totaling $30.8 million, with nearly $3.8 million of that in principal forgiveness.
