Congressman Chris Murphy (CT-5) released the following statement in response to President Obama's address to the nation.
"Tonight, President Obama delivered a dose of reality with a shot of hope. We, in Connecticut and across the country, are undoubtedly dealing with an economic crisis that has toppled businesses big and small, and caused layoffs and belt tightening in nearly every industry.
"But within this crisis, we have opportunities. We have an opening to reinvest in communities like Waterbury, and Torrington, and New Britain, which are poised to be leaders in the next generation of manufacturing and technology. We have an opportunity to find ways to make our economy work for everyone, not just those at the top. And we have a duty to act this year to reform our health care system so that care is universal and costs are manageable.
"I walked away from the House chamber tonight knowing that it isn't going to be an easy road, but together, we are going to take responsibility for our future and take the bold steps that will make this country better."
