Murphy Statement On State Assistance Funds In Economic Recovery Bill, Negotiations With The Senate

As the House and Senate begin negotiations on their differences in the economic recovery bill, Congressman Chris Murphy (CT-5) released the following statement:

"I was disappointed to see the deep cuts that the leaders of the Senate compromise made to the state assistance accounts in the economic recovery bill. The state stabilization fund is intended to put people back to work, reinvest in our education system, and fill state budget gaps so that Governor Rell and the state legislature don't have to make nearly impossible choices in their budget process. These cuts have a real impact in Connecticut, reducing what the state was expecting by an estimated $437 million.

"It's in Connecticut's best interest for the negotiators to restore at least some of the funds that were in the House bill. It's clear, when I am in Waterbury or Meriden or Danbury, that we in Connecticut need a bold plan to fix our state's economy."
