Murphy Urges Breakup Of Galante's Assets, Public Ownership Of Transfer Station To Benefit Greater Danbury Area Residents

Today, Congressman Chris Murphy (CT-5) sent a letter to the U.S. Marshalls Service to ask that the assets previously owned by James Galante and Thomas Milo not be sold to a single entity, and to request that their transfer station on White Street in Danbury be put into the hands of the public. After years of paying arbitrarily high trash collection rates set by Galante and Milo, Murphy and other community leaders want to make sure that the same monopoly-style operation doesn't happen again.

"Public ownership of this transfer station is in the best interests of the residents of the Greater Danbury region. We need to restore people's trust in the trash services they receive and to prevent organized crime from regaining its former presence in the area," said Murphy.

Local officials have also expressed concern to Murphy that they have been unable to meet or talk with representatives of the U.S. Marshals Service to discuss this matter. Murphy asked that the U.S. Marshall Service, unless there are legal barriers that would prevent such a discussion from occurring, to set up an in-person conversation or conference call as soon as possible.
