Murphy Statement On Closure Of Watertown's DriveSol

Congressman Chris Murphy (CT-5) released the following statement on the news that DriveSol of Watertown has notified the Connecticut Department of Labor that it will close in 60 days, which will result in 241 jobs lost.

"Two weeks ago, executives at DriveSol spoke at a meeting I organized about how Connecticut's economy would be affected by the downfall of our domestic auto industry. Their message was clear; if Detroit wasn't given a short term bridge loan, DriveSol would be forced to close its doors.

"Unfortunately, right here in Watertown, we are seeing the direct consequences of the unprecedented instability of the American auto industry.

"In the coming days, I will be reaching out to explore ways to assist the company and the employees. And when I return to Washington in January, I will push for Congress to act swiftly to pass an economic stimulus bill that will focus on protecting and growing jobs in Connecticut and throughout the country."
