Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Applauds President's Speech, Chides Democrat Complaints
WASHINGTON-Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) today released the following statement in reaction to President Bush's speech Monday night:
"I applaud the President for addressing the nation last night with his plan for our actions in Iraq during the next several months, including the transfer of power to the new Iraqi government on June 30. His speech showed remarkable vision and commitment to freedom for the Iraqi people. As we watch the terrorists increase their attacks in desperate attempts to derail Iraq's future, President Bush continues to lead our nation with the unflinching resolve needed in these times.
"Democrats' complaints about lack of specifics are nothing more than playing politics in a campaign year. What specifics would satisfy them? Detailed troop movements? Do they really want to telegraph everything we do to the terrorists so they can plot their method of destruction?
"I am extremely proud of our troops, who are fighting every day in difficult circumstances to defend freedom from murderous thugs. Thankfully they have a President who believes in them and the good work they are doing.
"The American people simply want to know that there is a plan and they want to understand the gist of that plan. The President answered both of those needs last night. He does have a plan and it is reasonable and responsible. It gradually gives the Iraqi people more control over their country as we phase into normal diplomatic relations."
