Rep. Rogers: Funding Released for Rural Transit Systems in Southern, Eastern Kentucky

The office of Rep. Harold Rogers, R-Ky., issued the following press release:
Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-5) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has released $2,967,590 for 6 rural public transportation systems in southern and eastern Kentucky. Rogers inserted the funding in federal transportation spending legislation.
"This funding will be used to purchase new transit vehicles that help move people with limited transportation resources to and from work, educational facilities, and also enable isolated seniors to obtain access to health care services and community centers," Rogers said. "In order to promote new jobs and prosperity it is absolutely essential to invest in our region's transportation system."
The funding announced today will enable the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to purchase a total of 13 vehicles, 74 vans, two trolleys, bus shelters, and shop equipment for 6 rural transit systems serving 32 counties in the region:
* Sandy Valley Transportation Services of Prestonsburg - bus passenger shelters, miscellaneous support equipment, and 1 trolley (Counties: Pike, Floyd, Martin, Johnson, and Magoffin)
* Harlan Community Action Council of Harlan - 6 vans (County: Harlan)
* Daniel Boone Development Council - 16 vans and 3 utility vehicles (Counties: Clay, Jackson, Owsley, Lee, and Breathitt)
* Leslie, Letcher, Perry, Knott Community Action of Red Fox - 8 vans and shop equipment (Counties: Leslie, Letcher, Perry, and Knott)
* Rural Transit Coordinate Enterprises, Inc. - 20 vans and 10 support vehicles (Counties: Pulaski, Laurel, Knox, Bell, Russell, Cumberland, Wayne, Whitley, McCreary, Rockcastle, Monroe, and Clinton)
* Eastern Kentucky Independent Services Organization - 2 vans (Counties: Bath, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, and Rowan)
Rogers, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, fought to include the funding in the DOT spending measure.
