Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Honors Reagan

WASHINGTON-Following the death of President Ronald Reagan, Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) today released this statement honoring the belated president:

"Our nation lost a great leader Saturday. History will remember President Reagan as one of the greatest presidents to ever lead our nation. He understood that we are the good guys. He understood that the United States is a source of good and that dictatorships - particularly communist dictatorships - are evil.

"Despite any criticism thrown at him, he continued to stand resolute in his understanding that communism, not freedom and liberty, is evil and dangerous. By his vision and resolve, he helped our nation persevere to victory, ultimately bringing an end to the Cold War.

"President Reagan, like many presidents, delivered a multitude of great speeches, but what sets him apart is how he delivered in actions and results too. He not only spoke of the evils of communism and the evils of that totalitarian, cruel system, but he sought to bring about freedom.

"He was certainly one of my heroes and he will be missed. Thankfully, his legacy will live on."
