Boozman Supports Health Care Equity

Encourages Members of Congress to Enroll in Public Health Plan

U.S. Representative John Boozman signed on as an original cosponsor of a resolution that recommends all Members of Congress who vote for a public health care option to automatically enroll in that plan. Under the current health care proposal, H.R. 3200, Members of Congress are necessarily exempt from participation in the public plan.

House Resolution 615 would require Members of Congress to relinquish their entitlement to the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP).

"We need to ensure that our nation's lawmakers are willing to make the same sacrifices that they expect of the American people," Boozman said. "Members of Congress should lead by example and I encourage my colleagues who support this legislation to show it through enrolling in the public plan."

"If Members of Congress are convinced that the public, government-run option will deliver the same quality of care as their Congressional health plans, then they should be willing to enroll in the public option automatically," Rep. John C. Fleming, who recently introduced the resolution said.

Boozman supports health care reform and accessibility to quality affordable care for all Americans.
