Boozman Statement on Healthcare Reform
Government-run healthcare not good practice
U.S. Representative John Boozman today issued the following statement on reforming healthcare after Speaker Pelosi introduced her healthcare reform bill.
"All Americans deserve access to quality, affordable healthcare but the status quo doesn't allow this necessity. Any time a parent or a child goes without health care coverage it's a crisis. That's why we must do everything we can to make sure every family has access to affordable healthcare, but we need to protect the availability of patient choice and flexibility.
A government-controlled healthcare plan is not the answer. We cannot put Washington in the way of patients receiving the healthcare they need. This option' will only mean higher taxes, rationed care, and government bureaucrats in charge of health care decisions best left to patients and doctors and millions of Americans losing their current coverage.
This massive overhaul proposed by Speaker Pelosi is a job-killer that will be paid for by small businesses. These are the engines that drive our economy and during the worst recession in nearly 30 years, we cannot force these businesses to carry the burden of paying for this outrageous proposal.
I am committed to working on a plan that reduces healthcare costs, expands access and increases the quality of care, but the proposal by Speaker Pelosi does not achieve those goals."
