Lummis: Dem Healthcare Bill Equals Overdose Of Big Government

Statement

U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., issued the following statement regarding the massive healthcare reform bill released by House Democrat leaders today:

"There is no doubt we must reform America's healthcare system. Too many people in Wyoming - including ranchers, small business owners and small business employees - do not have health insurance, are paying far too much for it, or are having problems accessing the care they need.

"Unfortunately, House Democrats are proposing a bill to reform America's healthcare system in a way that would dramatically increase federal spending, raise taxes on small businesses and working families, and stick a Washington bureaucrat between patients and their doctors. This proposal will force more than 100 million Americans off their current health care plans and move millions of seniors, particularly in rural areas, out of their current coverage and onto the government rolls as a result of deep Medicare cuts. Wyoming seniors on Medicare Advantage will be the first to lose out.

"American small businesses, which are the nation's job creation engine, will bear the brunt for this new government-run health plan. While millions of Americans look for jobs, small businesses simply cannot afford to hire more workers while paying higher taxes.

"There is a better way. I support an alternative that will reduce costs, expand access, and let people in Wyoming who like their plans keep them - without raising taxes. I am committed to working with members of both parties to lower healthcare costs and expand access while protecting choice and flexibility for patients. I encourage my Democrat colleagues to work with Republicans to find common ground on this critical issue. Americans deserve better than a one party solution to a problem facing people from all walks of life."
