Rogers' Radio Statement On Rising Gas Prices

This is Congressman Hal Rogers.

Today, I joined 84 of my colleagues in introducing comprehensive energy legislation that will lead to lower gas prices. The American people have suffered from congressional inaction too long, and we need your help to get Speaker Pelosi's attention to allow a vote on this measure.

The American Energy Act will lower the price of gasoline by tapping resources on American soil. It will end our dependence on foreign oil and it will invest in coal-to-liquids technology.

For the past few months, I have been hounding Speaker Pelosi to allow us to vote on lowering your gas prices, still hovering at over $4 per gallon. She has refused, because of radical environmentalists in San Francisco.

High gas prices are taking a serious toll on rural, hard-working families and seniors in my district who face long commutes to work, school, and church. Nearly 16% of take home pay for folks in our region is going into the gas tank - 8 times what people in Speaker Pelosi's liberal San Francisco-based district are facing.

Her people may not be hurting, but mine are.

The American Energy Act is a bold step toward freeing us from the foreign oil cartels and creates good paying Kentucky jobs.
