Sessions Reacts To President Obama's Health Care Media Blitz
Statement
Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-32) today released the following statement in response to President Obama's White House "town hall discussion" on health care reform:
"America's health care is at a cross roads. Skyrocketing health care costs have drained the pocketbooks of hardworking American families, increasing the number of uninsured Americans and diminishing affordable access to quality heath care. The need for reform is clear, and Republicans understand the need to act to ensure that our nation continues to deliver the best quality health care in the world.
"Tonight, President Obama highlighted the Democrat vision for a government-run, HMO/Medicaid-style rationed health care plan that will place Washington bureaucrats between physicians and their patients, force tens of millions of Americans off their current insurance plan, reduce quality and patient choice, and bankrupt our nation with a cost of $3.5 trillion. To subsidize this government intrusion, Democrats propose to raise taxes on individuals and businesses that are already struggling to afford coverage and make ends meet during this recession.
"This is not change that American families and small businesses can afford.
"My Republican colleagues and I are committed to a common-sense, bipartisan solution to our nation's current health care problems. Instead of increasing taxes and running up debt, we support patient-centered reforms that make health care more affordable, reduce the number of uninsured and increase quality at a price all Americans can afford. We promote prevention and wellness while preserving patient choice and the right of patients and physicians not Washington bureaucrats to make personal health care decisions.
"I stand against a Washington-run, health care plan for all Americans. I encourage the President and my Democrat colleagues to leave private heath care decisions to doctors and patients and to join Republicans in promoting real reform that provides every American access to affordable, patient-centered, and quality health care of their choice."
