Sessions Opposes Job-Killing National Energy Tax
U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions today released the following statement regarding the House of Representative's approval of Speaker Nancy Pelosi's "Cap-and-Trade" National Energy Tax:
"The facts are clear: Nancy Pelosi's National Energy Tax will kill American jobs, raise prices on hardworking families, and do little to clean up our environment.
"Democrats' answer to the worst recession in decades is a National Energy Tax that will eliminate over 4,000 jobs in my district1 and up to 311,000 jobs in my state.2 From flipping on a light switch to buying a gallon of milk, the cost of the National Energy Tax will be passed along to consumers in the form of higher prices for energy and products. And America now faces millions of lost jobs and billions of dollars wasted on extra energy costs for this erroneous climate change plan that is estimated at best to slow the earth's temperature increases by hundredths of a single degree by 2050, and no more than two tenths of a degree by the end of the century.3
"This is not the change Americans deserve. Congress' top priority should be creating jobs and growing our economy by advancing American-made energy production and promoting cleaner, more energy-efficient resources and technologies.
"That is why I support a Republican plan for a cleaner, safer, and more affordable alternative called the American Energy Act. The American Energy Act increases our energy supply and creates jobs through a comprehensive energy policy that develops more of our domestic resources, invests in renewable and alternative energy sources, offers incentives for better efficiency and conservation, and makes a renewed commitment to clean and emissions-free nuclear energy.
"I will continue to fight against the reckless tax-and-spend policies of this Democrat Congress and to fight for job creation, economic growth, and energy independence to ensure that America's best days lie in our future."
